Full Version: Kimbo Slice and "Street fighting" rules

I have watched some of Kimbo's "street" fights, including the one where he lost. Does anyone know what the rules for these "street" fights are? I ask because I thought it was similar to MMA rules but in the fight that I saw where he lost there were times when the other guy had him in a weak looking choke and people were trying to break them up. People seemed to get in the way of any fighting on the ground and seemed to take exception to knees being thrown.

The ones I saw were just "boxing".

The rules were bare knuckle boxing, no clinching/chokes or ground work. Basically mano a' mano, fist a' cuffs!!

Kimbos crew tried to break the first clinch/choke saying he was breaking the rules, but Kimbo did grab a leg when he got hit with a good straght right that buckled him momentarily and instinctivley grabed a hold of Sean Gannons leg. Give and take I guess :)

From some that i have seen its just bare knuckle fights, basically no glove boxing type rules
ArmBreaker
Boring rules, and though they are labeled as "street fighting" they are entirely set up with gentlemen type rules.
1) No head butting
2) No kicking, no palms, no groin
3) No other strikes than knuckles
4) No holding
5) No grappling
6) No throwing
7) Yawn
8) No clinching

The list goes on.

I agree. Just goes to show how marketing can make lead look like gold!

In a way I feel sorry for him, he's literally (or so we're led to believe) fought his way out of the gutter and now these people are making him think he's the "next big thing" when, in reality, as soon he faces a legitimate MMA fighter he'll be shown up and I think that the mental anguish he'll experience after everyone dumps him will be a helluva of a lot worse than any physical beating me may get. This may sound harsh and/or extreme but I think when it does happen, he'll be end up back on the streets, maybe worse.

I think someone just needs to put him against Alistar Overeem or Melvin Manhoef and give him and Terry Shaw a reality check.

I don't know about Overeem, he might catch Overeem and be declared the second coming of Jesus.

I'd like to see him square off against Fedor's brother!

I agree. While there is some value is getting him involved with non-legitimate MMA fighters (for example, it builds confidence), but when he runs across a true MMA fighter it may be another story. And if he has a string of them and they result in losses, I can forsee your prediciton coming true.

I don´t feel sorry for him. He is making a lot more money then fighting in those backyard fights. He is training with Bas Rutten and having all the opportunity to improve. He passed tough times and hopefully when all the hype is passed, he was smart enough to save his earnings and capitalize on his fame. He is a charismatic looking character and can probably get something on TV or be the opponent on Rocky 10.

I don´t know if he thinks about himself that he is a top heavyweight fighter, never saw him saying so. But he won´t say anything that hurts his paycheck, the men have to look tough.
Bas certainly stated many times that he is a Beginner with a couple of professional fights and should be expected to perform technicaly as such specially on the ground wich is not his (Kimbo) area of expertize.
