I've been working on this for submission grappling, instead of having the gi grip above the head though, from the underhook I have to concentrate on holding onto the persons lat to break the person down to roll over with me so I don't flop down like a piece of crap in front of them

May work against beginners only. I tried it in real life and it doesn't work. If you try uchimata and you get it, he will fly and you will get him over. If he manages to prevent it, it is because he is sprawling backwards or countering you, so you will not be able to drop and roll for his leg. Its one of those moves where either you throw or you don't!

Ive seen it work against experienced fighters before, couple of times actually. Maybe it doesnt work for you, but ive seen it work for others. (not me though, Im not a leglock guy)

You know i really think that sort of thing should be considered a throw, but it is difficult to see how it could be in judo rules, especially since he rolls forward. Pity. could you do it though and then transfer to osakomi or would you be penalised?

RH.. this isnt legal in judo, not at all.

Armbreaker... this is very similar to a kneebar roll found in sambo.. and, yes, it does work. very well in fact. just becuase you are seemingly poor at it, or dont have the vision to see it work, doesnt mean its something only doable on a beginner. ive caught bjj bb's and other sambo players with it.

It is practically a head diving uchimata with a follow up roll and leg lock.

It is illegal to do a legbar on a judo competition, if you need I can point the part of the IFJ regulament that says that no locks and bars can be apllied to other joints them the elbow, limiting kneebars, neckcranks, wirstlocks.

But a judoka can still learn that moves and practice outside of competitions ignoring its rules, as they lead sometimes to bad practices, like turtling. Just not ignore safety and a fair practice, so make the partner aware that legbars might be used. And in Judo competition this movement can be performed to counter a throw, just no be finalized applying pressure to the leg, so when hit the ground go for a choke from that position or switch to a pin. This will not be counted as a throw in Judo, and awarded no points, but as a valid movemento to make the fight go to the ground and let it continue there for the time allowed.

It works very well, specially if your opponent after blocking your throw is attempting a Ura nage (suplex). It can be used not only after a Uchi mata but any throw that you turn your back to the opponent, even a fake one. The important part of the movement to be well done is to roll putting your head deep under is legs, like did in the video.

Sambo people can pull a legbar from pretty much any position, even sutemi waza:

wouldn't it be easier to reach around the back and get the belt than it would to try and keep a grip on the high collar, especially if they are in double weave, or if you are moving pretty forcefully?

My son scored ippon off this technique in the black belt division. He did not apply the knee bar but his opponent had no idea what my son was doing and he landed flat on his back. At my club we train this technique with the kneebar for jiu-jitsu and sambo and sans kneebar for judo.

So without the kneebar, one could score with this, legally?
JoshuaResnick
let me clarify..it is illegal in judo IF you roll directly over your head... it is not at all illegal is your tip your head to the side as you roll...
