Hi

What other grappling or striking arts do those on the forum train alongside their judo? and how well do particular arts complement ones judos training?

The only arts that I currently maintain alongside my recent starting of Judo, is Muay thai and a little of Wing Chun. I've learned a little bit of BJJ years ago that I'm trying to incorporate during katamewaza sessions, and still throw in little things here and there from past studies.

Do you cross train in anything else? Or are you planning on cross training?

I've been fortunate enough to train also in Muay Tha and no-gi BJJ at my Muay Thai gym. it does wonders for the Newaza time at Oishi Judo in lower Manhathan.

Although i haven't officially started my judo training yet, i currently train in Sanda and Xing Yi. I'm hoping judo will greatly improve my sanda skills, because most of my throws are ineffective because i'm the smallest guy at my gym. So hopefully the principle of ju will make up for what i lack in strength laugh.gif

Only train judo at the moment, wouldn`t mind doing a bit of striking at some point though. I`ll probably keep my main focus on judo due to the realism it can offer, without the high possibility of serious injury

I train in Aikido and Judo. Aikido won't really help you with Judo seeing as almost every technique in Aikido is not legal in Judo. I'd say Wrestling, SAMBO, and BJJ would all compliment your Judo.

At the time I train also in BJJ and Jeet Kune Do.
Still now and then rehash some things in boxing, kickboxing and Krav maga to keep those skills up. JKD and BJJ compliment Judo nicely especially BJJ for the ground work.

I'm just a complete beginner in both so I am more trying out both than cross training but I'm also doing some goju karatedo at the moment (that class throws in some classic jujutsu as well). In the beginning at least they are pretty much completely different other than the fact that we did the same breakfalls as in judo last Monday for some reason (they didn't do any throws and didn't incorporate the breakfalls into anything else, they just presented them as is and practiced a few simple front, side and back breakfalls, no rolls).

The judo dojo I attend also does BJJ and most guys also do BJJ. I need to do more of that as groundwork is something I need more instruction on.

Our dojo also does Danzan Ryu jujitsu along with judo. A lot of the same throws and newaza, although different names. They complement each other quite well.
