White belt, but I compete in blue belt division. I dont train BJJ but my subgrappling experience obligated me to go to blue belt division.

i am a white belt. I have never really trained consistently at one school. I will get my schedule together soon. I have no intention of settling for anything less than a purple in a few years.

Same here. Injuries and TDY's put a damper on my move to blue. Someday I'll be up for ti again, but for now my new found love is Judo.

Same as what most everyone else said. Never trained BJJ formally enough to get promoted.

You probably have blue belt level skills if I were to guess considering your success at the grappling tournament you went to a few months ago.

pass me a needle and thread, my sides are splitting

as it happens it costs me more to grade in judo than it does in BJJ

I was a 3rd stripe purple belt (6 months away from my brown according to my instructor at the time).
But This was in april 2006. Me and others advanced students had a problem with the guy and left. Kept training together though and in judo too. So I like to think I can stand my ground against a bjj brown belt. Who knows. We will see next time I roll with one !
And its funny how the people who bit-tch against bjj on this forum are not answering that thread so far....

I got my blue belt 2 years ago, a bunch of BJJ promotion is about money IMHO and I don't have it. What happens usually to me is like I fought the stat champ I qualified to the national champs in Brazil (they call it world champ I dunno why...) as I was a judo black belt they promoted me cause it would be "unfair" if I fight whit the white belts, and they also placed me on the upper weight class still I got a second place and qualified

3 fights wont with basic morotegaris and uchi-matas.

I'm a white belt at this school:
http://tucsonbrazilianjj.comWe don't get stripes at my school. So I have a nice, plain white belt, and I can bleach it all I want! (yes I love bleaching things... I've been trying to get out of this habit as it makes my clothes disintegrate faster

)
I started in Feb. 2006, but I didn't start the gi class until May 2006, and I've taken a month off here and a few weeks off there, so not entirely consistent.

I was a 3 stripe white belt in late 2004 at the local Gracie Barra, then I took a three year break during which I rolled pretty often, at least 2-3 times a week. Upon my return to the same academy about a year ago, I started fresh and haven't been given a stripe yet. Purple belt seems to be my competitive limit, where I have good matches with high blue belts but get soundly defeated/dominated by purple belts.
Judo has definitely hampered my progress in Bjj, by taking two days away my bjj studies and adjusted my newaza focus/attitude.
As far as grading up in my academy, I think it has more do with filling up your attendance card then it is about technical knowledge or proficiency. I suspect it will take about another 1.5 years to fill up my white belt card maybe a little less if I pick up an extra day here and there. No worries though, as long as I'm still learning.
